Extra Usage: pay-as-you-go top-ups

What is Extra Usage?

Extra Usage is a flexible, pay-as-you-go supplement to your subscription credit, offered exclusively to Kimi subscribers. When your subscription credit is used up, Extra Usage lets you keep using Kimi without interrupting your workflow. Funds you add are credited to your balance (displayed in USD) and deducted based on actual usage and the applicable billing rates.

Note: Extra Usage is available for purchase only to Kimi subscribers. Free users can unlock more credit by upgrading their subscription.

How to activate and recharge

On Kimi.com, go to Settings > Subscription Management > Extra Usage, where you can also view your wallet balance and recent usage:

  1. Open Settings > Subscription Management > Extra Usage.
  2. Find the "Extra Usage" module.
  3. Click Enable.
  4. Bind a payment method (if you haven't already).
  5. Complete your first top-up to activate.

Usage rules

  • Extra Usage works across all Kimi clients — web, browser extension, desktop, and mobile; the balance is shared across every platform.
  • The system uses your subscription credit first. Once that's exhausted or rate-limited, the overflow is deducted from your Extra Usage balance.
  • You can turn Extra Usage off at any time on the web settings page. Your balance stays in your account, but the system pauses spending from it until you turn it back on. (Note: the desktop and mobile apps don't yet support toggling Extra Usage on or off.)
  • An individual subscriber's Extra Usage balance applies only to the personal account and is not shared with team or enterprise accounts.

Billing rules

Extra Usage is deducted in real time based on actual usage. Different tasks and models may cost different amounts; the actual deduction prevails. For example:

  • "Recommend a great rock song." — approximately USD 0.005.
  • "Plan a one-week road trip along the California Pacific Coast Highway — San Francisco, Big Sur, Monterey, and Santa Barbara — with daily schedules, scenic stops, and restaurant recommendations." — approximately USD 0.24.

Extra Usage pricing is close to the official API pricing on the Kimi Open Platform. If your usage is high, upgrading your subscription is usually more cost-effective than buying an equivalent amount of Extra Usage.

Recharge limits

You can choose a system-provided amount or set a custom amount. To keep accounts secure and usage fair, the following limits apply:

  • Minimum single recharge: USD 10.
  • Maximum 10 recharges per day.
  • Daily cumulative recharge limit: USD 1,000.
  • Balance cap: USD 2,000. When your balance reaches the cap, further recharges are restricted until it falls below the cap.
  • Monthly spending cap: disabled by default. You can enable it and set a monthly cap (which must exceed the minimum single recharge amount). Once your monthly spending reaches the cap, the system pauses Extra Usage spending for that month.

Validity

Extra Usage funds do not expire. Any unused balance stays in your account and can be used at any time. If your subscription lapses, your balance remains and can still be spent, but you won't be able to make new recharges until you reactivate your Kimi subscription.

Refund policy

Extra Usage is a prepaid virtual product. To maintain transaction security and prevent money laundering and fraudulent activity, recharges are generally non-refundable and non-transferable, and cannot be exchanged for cash, except where required by applicable law in your jurisdiction. Please evaluate your needs carefully before recharging.
